Introduction
Salon at home has now become a permanent term in the glossary of urban population but what is interesting is the journey of a normal salon to salon at home services. While there is a general want of people to look good irrespective of which class, state, country, religion or ethnicity they come from but not all could enjoy the feel of good looks since the market for quite a long time was dominated by a select few giants who dictated their terms to the market and often times at exorbitant prices.
It would not be wrong to say that the even though we live in modern age of internet and digitalization, a huge population of India is barely able to earn median size salaries. The scenario was even worse a few years ago where, the earnings were low and the wants were the same. People either had to shell out a lot of money to the brand which had monopolized the market or bury their wants and live in compunction. Either way the brands won.
With the entry of salon at home services into the market there came a pricing strategy which was enthusiastically accepted by the customers. The same set of services with original brands and well-behaved professional staff was offered to the customers at one fourth the prices of monopolized regular salon market. With this much of cost effectiveness with salon at home services the money bagging business practice was condemned with a greater number of people readily opting for at home salon services.
The situation could have been worse if there was no salon at home service providing platform as the current salon market rest at USD 22 billion in 2022 which is expect to grow at a cumulative average growth rate of over 6% to $33 billion by 2027
With such huge market resting in the hands of a few would have led to serious and undue exploitation but with the advent of at home salon, they faced serious competition and the overcharging was finally dropped. This is a clear case where in the absence of competition the customer suffered.
Moreover, with a nationwide lockdown imposed on the whole of the country on 22nd of March 2022 due to COVID pandemic led to translocation of offices into the homes of people and this in turn led immediate demand of salon being moved to home as the personal hygiene was required to be looked after. The tough and almost bone breaking conditions of the pandemic rendered the nation lifeless and it was the time when the true mettle of salon at home service industry was tested where strict sanitization protocol was followed and one-time use kit intended for one single individual came handy.
With such trying time that were faced by salon at home industry while it was in its infancy only made it stronger and gave it a healthy and stable bedrock to grow and it only seems that salon at home services have carved a special place for themselves in the society and have become its integral part.
